TEEN FAIR
(13-19 YEARS)

NOTES:
a)    NO ENTRY FEE:
b)    Open to ALL youth 13-19 years of age.
c)    Younger children may enter any of the sections.
d)    Entries must be the work of the exhibitor within the past two years (2010-2012).
e)    Only one entry in each section.
f)    NO soiled articles will be judged.
g)    Prize money may be picked up at the Arena Office on the Saturday of the Fair from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

LOOK WHAT YOU CAN DO
All art work must be mounted or framed.
1.    Greeting card, any medium, any occasion
2.    Pencil or coloured pencil sketch
3.    Painting, any medium, but no paint by numbers
4.    One (1) painted lay pot, no other accessories
5.    Design your own “C.D.” cover
6.    Design your own video game cover
7.    Hand drawn cartoon character, or movie actor/actress
8.    One (1) model, kits allowed
9.    Diarama consisting of at least two (2) models and accessories encouraged.  Placed on a solid platform no bigger than 50 cm x 50 cm
10.    Any painted ceramics
11.    Piece of jewellery
12.    Article of woodworking
13.    Article of metal working
14.    Gifts in a jar. Using a 1 litre or quart size jar, layer the edible, dry ingredients including an appropriate and specific recipe that includes when to add the contents to the jar.  layered, edible, dry ingredients in a 1 litre or 1 quart size jar with appropriate recipe.
15.    Item made only from duct tape.
16.    Your best handcrafted or art school project
17.    Your best computer generated school project
18.    Your best creative writing school assignment
19.    Personal writing – ex poetry, song or journal entry to a maximum of one page
20.     Family History – on one sheet of bristol board show at least three (3) generations of your family. Pictures, painting or new paper clipping can be used, anything that will attach to the board.
21. Make a list of five (5) things that you might like to exhibit or see at the fair.

TEEN LIFE
Colour prints. No slides or enlargements. All prints to be 4"x6", individually mounted on 15 cm x 20 cm (6" x 8") clean, white bristolboard. Attach tag at upper right hand corner.
Prints must be taken by exhibitor within the past two years.

M&M FOWLER SCRAPBOOKING SPECIAL
46.    One completed scrapbook album, any size. Pages must be in page protectors, journaling (can be handwritten, printed, or computer work). Embellishments as you wish. Theme i.e.: trip, high school years, special honour, i.e.: year as an ambassador etc. Must be work of the exhibitor with no assistance from consultants.

OLD ARTS WITH A YOUTHFUL FLAIR
47. Embroidered item, a machine may be used

CREATIVE BAKERS
Food to be on a paper plate and secure in clear plastic bag. NO Saran wrap. Cakes to be on appropriate sized foil covered base. NO commercial mixes. Tags taped on outside.

55.    3 of your favourite cookies
56.     8 Chocolate Chip Cookies, plain no nuts
    OAAS Rules - Contest open to youth ages 10 to 15 years (as of December 31, 2012). Plain chocolate chip cookies, with no nuts, must be no larger than 3 inches (6.75 cm) and no smaller than 2 inches (5 cm). Winner eligible to enter at the District Competition.
57.    One (1) decorated cookie, any type, any size, any idea
58.    1 cup/250 ml of trail mix. In a Ziploc baggie with a list of ingredients)
59.    Five (5) pieces of fudge using this recipe
    1 ¾ cup icing sugar    pinch of salt
    ¼ cup cocoa        1 ¼ tsp. vanilla
    2 tbsp milk        ¼ cup butter
    In a 4 cup measuring cup stir sugar, cocoa, salt, milk and vanilla until partially blended. Put cut up pieces of butter on top. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Sir vigorously until smooth. Pour into wax paper lined loaf pan. Chill one hour before cutting.

Vegetables to be displayed on a firm paper, foil, or foam plate.

66.    Variety basket – include at least 4 veggies from your garden, cleaned and displayed attractively in a basket, or other sturdy vessel

YOUTH POSTER COMPETITION
“Original handmade design”
 Youth Grade 7 to Grade 12 inclusive
Entry Rules
“Promoting Your Fair” – Name and date of fair must be clearly shown on poster.
Must be hand drawn.
Poster size: Minimum – 8 ½” X 11” (23 cm X 28 cm), without border
Maximum – 11” X 17” (28 cm X 44 cm), without border
Each entry must be mounted on a BLACK ART CARD or BRISTOL BOARD showing a 2” border.
Name, age, grade and school to be clearly labeled on the back of each entry.
The winning poster from each class will be eligible to enter the district competition. District winners are eligible to enter at the provincial competition.

Judging Standards
Overall Appearance – 20 points
Attract and hold attention – 30 points
Competition theme clear – 40 points
Quality materials/end product – 10 points.
