ROOTS & VEGETABLES

HELPFUL HINTS:
a) All exhibits must be grown by exhibitor.
b) All entries to be displayed on/in a FIRM container.
c) “Topped” – top removed with
only a short stock
remaining (1").
d) When a certain number is specified, there must be
neither more nor less.
e) Judges will change every year, or every other year.
f) Uniformity is key
g) Choose medium size specimens – unless largest
or
longest is specified.
h) Choose regular shaped specimens.
i) Choose specimens of same shape and size if possible.
j) Choose specimens which are free from blemishes.
k) Polish with dry cloth.
l) Bend onion tops over some time before pulling so
that
the tops will stop growing. After pulling, allow the
onions
to dry. Do not peel.
m) Pumpkins and squash must have stems on.
n) Cabbage heads should be trimmed down to two layers
of
sound green outer leaves.

on each entry tag.

SCARECROW
COMPETITION
Entrants will be given a specific location to erect their
scarecrow. Decision of the judges is final. Use your
imagination. Group efforts are encouraged, but only
one (1) cash prize will be awarded for each winning
scarecrow.
